Athlete Spotlight ~ January ~ Martha F.

Let’s welcome Martha F. as our athlete spotlight member for the month of January!   Martha has been an athlete with us for five years! She and her husband, Chuck, have been a very important part of our CF family over the years. From hosting our 2nd gym anniversary party at their house to attending every social event possible, they have been there. Martha has make incredible strides in her athlete journey over the years and we have loved watching her improve. When Martha puts her mind to something, she sticks with it and you better believe she accomplishes it. She’s competed in Festivus and at Femme Royal with her daughter. Congrats on your journey an hard work, we can’t wait to see what the next 5 years brings!     Learn more about Martha here:

My fitness journey began when I was first married (in 1972!) and met a woman who had started running with her crazy-athletic husband. It was unusual for women to just go out and run then – we didn’t even have proper (ahem) apparel.   After years of running, including a half-marathon, my knees said “no more”.  So, into the gym.  BORING!! And in 2012, at almost 62, my daughter convinced me I should try crossfit.  In 2014 after a move and new job location, I joined Kada and soon dropped my gym membership.

One of the reasons I wanted to do crossfit was to become stronger, and I have.  What I didn’t expect was that my angry knees actually got better, although they still talk to me about our workouts, and my flexibility improved quite a bit.   Since being at Kada, I’ve become more proficient at everything we do, although some things may always be out of reach.  HSPU? Maybe not, but I’ll keep trying.  In the meantime, I have fun with cleans, deadlifts and pull ups.

My goal is to get back to pre-2018 status and be able to have more fun in the gym.  Our coaches have been incredible in working me through knee surgery, and shoulder and ankle issues.  Everyone in our morning classes – coaches and athletes, keep me motivated.

Reading is my first choice for relaxation activity – unless there is a reef nearby to dive on. My favorite go-to healthy meal?  www.PaleOMG.com -Thai Chicken Stuffed Sweet Potatoes.
