Here’s a little bit about Amanda you might not know!
Tell us about your fitness journey:
My journey began about 3 years ago when I started going to the rec center gym to fit into a maid of honor dress. I continued going to the gym regularly after the wedding and told myself, if I can commit to going for a year, I’m going to join something. I didn’t do any weights at the rec center gym, mostly cardio. I always wanted a certain body type but I knew cardio alone wasn’t going to get me there. After a year, I decided I’d try Crossfit. I didn’t know much about it, I just knew it incorporated lifting and that’s what I thought I needed. I thought I was in pretty okay shape to keep up with whatever was thrown at me in my first workout. I was wrong. It was the hardest workout everrrr. I continued to go and realized Crossfit was more than just working out and going home, it was a community. They were the most positive and encouraging group of people I’d ever met. Eventually I participated in my first nutrition challenge and that was a game changer for me. I saw a change in how I felt, performed and looked. In the beginning my reasons for working out were all superficial, but it turned out to be about so much more than fitting into clothes. It became about how I felt, being healthy, being active, to encourage and be encouraged by others. The community has embraced me from day one. During that challenge I met KD at Whole Foods (I asked her what broccolini was lol and we spoke for a bit) and when it came time to find a new Crossfit home, KADA was on the list of boxes to try. After the trial period at KADA ended, it felt like the right fit to continue my Crossfit journey.
Since starting with KADA, what changes have you seen?
First and foremost, though none of my movements are perfect and I’m certainly not the fastest; form and endurance have improved and my confidence has increased. When I first started CF, I was PRing (personal records) all the time but after a while, I plateaued. After I joined KADA I started to see PRs again as I got stronger. Some of my biggest Crossfit firsts have come while at KADA; entered a competition, got unassisted pull-ups. And just recently, double-unders, toes to bar and rope climbs are starting to come together. Consideration of what I consume isn’t just challenge driven anymore. Coaches at KADA lead by example. Because of that, I can say my commitment to and awareness of nutrition has improved. That statement can also be extended to the members. Seeing positive changes in them, makes me want to try to do the same.
